"Big Brother" is my main Family Tree set of web pages ("Little sis" being my very first set of webapges, VERY infrequently updated, see Home, for further explanation of what exists were).
If you are used to navigating the menus you will need to break old habits and find where they've shifted to.
SecondSite, the program used to generate these pages direct from my TMG genealogy database, has been updated and allowed me to use Sub Menus.
So all that clutter of surnames etc has been reduced to a much cleaner menu structure.
Everything that used to be there is still there, just shifted in the menu.
For any menu item showing an arrow, either click on the menu item and see an explanation about the offerings beneath it, or hover over the menu item and select a sub menu.
Failing that, why not use the Site Search?
In general, menu items in the sidebar are family specific, although the last three will take you to other sites where copies of my data exists in differently navigable forms.
Those in the top menu are links to other of my webpages.

Connections, Connections!
For publishing genealogy data on my webpages I use SecondSite, which is an extremely flexible, and very well supported add-on to my genealogy software of choice, The Master Genealogist (TMG).
However, I also use The Next Generation (TNG) for some smaller projects, which can be used directly as an online genealogy database, and thus shared with others interested in the same families - sort of WikiTree but under local control.
It also is very well supported.
Both have dedicated, active, user communities and I belong to mailing lists for both.
Some of you may be aware that About.com are running an online survey at the moment about the best genealogy software, online trees etc etc.
It is of course extremely selective, unscientific, and ballot box stuffing readily occurs.
Some on the TNG list were wondering what this SecondSite program was that was creeping up the votes.
Comments were a little ill-informed so I piped up and gave a link to a couple of my websites.
Didn't expect what happened next.
A private email turned up from Teresa saying we were 8th cousins!
Her website has a number of families of interest to me, and has allowed me to reduce the number of parentless South West Devon people in my database. Of particular interest was the 1654 will of Walter NARRAMORE whose children are named as NORTHMORE.
Not that this helped me find my Elizabeth NORTHMORE.
Many of the NORTHOMOREs in my database are descendants of this Walter.
Walter lived at Ideford, but states in his will "I purchased of John Elford of Shister Esquire these Messuages Lands and Tenements called Chubstone otherwise Scotland lyin in Shutstor aforesaid for nynty and nyne yeares".
All of which was completely incidental to our relationship which is back at James BARTER of Lower Dittisham, Teresa descending from his daughter Mary, who married William LIGHT.
With the string of names in her tree from around this area of Devon, our trees probably interconnect many times over.

One thing leads to another
Continuing the recent activity from the WIGHT/THOMSON review led Harry to recheck for more of his WIGHT/STEPHENSONs, and of course I got sidetracked onto them as well.
Both of us were surprised to find another child, or possibly 2, in the family of William STEVENSON and Agnes RAMAGE, having found "mother", Mrs STEVENSON, living with a previously unknown son Thomas, and his brother William, in Selkirk in 1901 (bit lucky that, she died in 1901).
Thomas pre-dated her marriage to hubby William and shows up on FamilySearch Scotland Births and Baptisms as Thomas RAMAGE and was brought up by a William & Eliza BEATTIE as both adopted son, and nephew (my unchecked assumption is that Eliza might be Agnes' sister).
William however was born Melrose, in Dec 1872 to William and Agnes (RAMAGE) STEVENSON, as William Robert STEVENSON.
But having found him in 1891 and 1901 he then disappears.
A tree on ancestry provided a hint that a chap of the right age, but no parents provided, had a daughter Margaret Hamilton STEVENSON who married in Australia (Ian Murray THOMSON - no obvious connection to the THOMSONs of recent activity, being of Fife origins) in 1932, and provided death dates, but no places, for William and his wife Agnes Hamilton nee GRIEVE.
Still haven't found their emigration records, but William and Agnes (GRIEVE) STEVENSON were in Geelong by at least 1924.
So, that little mystery is well on the way to being solved, which leaves the fate of William Snr's sister Sarah.....
My main web pages have been updated to include the above in the WIGHT tree (and possibly the RUNCIMAN and FAMILTON ones, depending on how many generations down we've got to by now).
One of the changes is a overdue replacement of my paternal ancestors and siblings chart. I noticed the other day that it still showed my older thoughts on how the Bowden WIGHT tree looked (refered to here).
The other change is to the home page for Big Brother - it now includes a summary of the last 5 posts from this blog - thanks to an update to the program I use to generate the webpages from my TMG database, SecondSite.

1st: Ignore "recent changes"
Any "recent change" index showing changes to great great grannie Honor ROWE nee DAWE can be ignored, I was tweaking data to work better with the new version of Second Site (my web page generator from my TMG database) when it groups the events shown for each person.

31st: Originals revamp
My Originals sub site has been republished to use the newer descendant chart features now available from the program I use to generate these pages from my database (Second Site and TMG respectively).
The actual content has not changed, other than Simon ANDREWS' photo now including a credit to Janice (who provided the photo), this having been missed when I cropped the image for the web, and a few sources citations being tidied to better reflect my current citing practices (I never will finish the umpteen years of clean up needed on my older data).
For the new charts (see lhs menu under Dramatis Personae), have fun trying out the expand/collapse feature to help get a better overall picture of where people fit in relation to others, eg collapse all then click on the + next to the spouse to get just the 1st generation.
Those actually included on the site are highlighted, so a quick scroll down the page will show you those on the tree that you can find more about.

Revamp
SecondSite, the program I use to generate my web pages from my Genealogy database (TMG), has come out with some interesting new features.
It was a good time to review bits of my main website.
As always, when testing, I find things that are missing, have incorrect links etc etc, so a few of those have been tidied up, some snippets added to timelines and so on.
However, the main change will be added gradually as I review all the charts.
What is now possible, is to produce a dynamic descendant chart that can be expanded/collapsed to help you get the feel for where the person of interest on the chart "fits".
I've defaulted them to "open collapsed", so that the initial view you will see is that of your person of interest, and their relationship to the subject of the chart they appear on, but you can then either open/close individual branches, or nip up to the top of the chart and expand or collapse the whole chart.
I started with the FAIRBAIRN chart for my Archibald, but several others have already been converted.
One thing that was always missing from the existing descendant charts was the spouse at the lowest level of the chart. These now show.
In addition there's an alternate view of a pedigree chart with much the same expand/collapse dynamic view, but instead of being presented in the more normal flying geese formation, this one shows the parents immediately beneath each ancestor on the chart, AND has the ability to show where a person has more than one set of "parents", eg adoptive parents, foster parents, or simply alternates from research where conclusions have not yet been reached.
As yet there's only one of these charts available, and that's my own pedigree on the charts page of my main web site, but it is highly likely that this will be used in the One Name Study pages, where alternates exist on where someone "fits".
Quite apart from the above changes, there may well be some extra snippets on the GRAHAM chart from the branch in Sth Australia (see posting in my Guestbook, 12 Jan), and one or two more snippets on the WIGHT branch in Sunderland, the family of Hector Cowans GRAY and Elizabeth WIGHT on the WIGHT chart, but whether or not anything appears there depends on how many generations down the tree the changes are, as the charts may cut off a generation or two too early.

6th: Full Big Brother update
What with the number of changes of late, the exciting developments out of the Fairbairn DNA Project etc it is time I did a full site update.
The newly released version of Second Site, allows me to easily include some additional information on people not included on the site with a page of their own. The main change as a result of this is that below each person's page, if they have family, lifespan dates (mth/year only) now show.
Big Brother has therefore had a full refresh. If I've missed some links somewhere, please let me know.
Apart from a general tidy-up the main changes that I can remember are:

Johnnie comes marching home
Well "Johnnie" actually left Scotland prior to the American Civil War, and in fact had been in NY State for nigh on 20 years before becoming embroiled in it even.
The Fairbairn Surname DNA Project Diary has the details on the latest findings that explain this comment more fully, but basically, I think we're well on the way to welcoming the John son of a Walter FAIRBAIRN of Roxburghshire, who was in Delaware Co, NY by at least 1841, probably earlier, into the family of Walter and Agnes (ROBERTSON/ROBISON) FAIRBAIRN.
Nearly three weeks since a post must be a record for me. Been busy doing lots of things, but the main one was testing for a new release of Second Site 3, the program I use to generate my web pages, particularly for the newly introduced component of it to cope with dna results and charts. The preliminary result of the changes can now be seen in DNA Surnames Lineages section where most of the surnames recorded there now have a dna section on that site instead of referring you off to other sites.
Whatever else I've been up to will eventually surface in the web and online database updates that will follow in due course.

5th: Brought the remainder of my website pages into the fold and changed the look/feel of the Paradise hosted pages. All of my pages are now generated using Second Site.

18th: Brought Chris' webpages "back to the future" by redeveloping them in the newly published upgrade to SecondSite. Wonderful program. Easy to get a completely different look/feel to web pages from TMG data. Now I've just got to do the belated updates to her actual data done!
On the RICHARDSON front there's a hint of a Sir someone or other SCOTT as a relation to them, who apparently announced the birth of Princess Margaret Rose, so I guess I'm looking for a SCOTT alive around 1930 and already a Sir by then. My assumption is that this would be one of Margaret SCOTT nee RICHARDSON's grandchildren, but which one?
On the RICHARDSON front there's a hint of a Sir someone or other SCOTT as a relation to them, who apparently announced the birth of Princess Margaret Rose, so I guess I'm looking for a SCOTT alive around 1930 and already a Sir by then. My assumption is that this would be one of Margaret SCOTT nee RICHARDSON's grandchildren, but which one?

4th: Hope you like the new format web pages. It's been great fun reorganising what went were into much more (to me anyway) logical groupings of links and information. They come courtesy of an about to be released new version of Second Site which works with my TMG database.
The Paradise hosted Homepages site likewise has had a makeover.
As to what's actually new: I've included a DAVIDSON chart, and found out a bit more about the Otago RICHARDSON family, enough to make me link James Russell R. in as the son of James and Elizabeth, albeit that there is some confusion over his mother's maiden name: McCULLOCH or PEACOCK.
In the hunt for living relations I am trying to find descendants of the following children/grandchildren of an Ann RICHARDSON, widow of Dunedin who died in Roxburgh in 1931:
Elizabeth Jane CLARK, Joseph R, Isabel SUTHERLAND, George Lancelot R, James R, Eleanor CLARK, Eva WEDDELL, John R, and grandchildren Ronald John R, son of her son John and Pansy PERKINS, dtr of E J CLARK. This being in the hope that they can confirm whether or not this Ann RICHARDSON is nee YUILL or some other unconnected RICHARDSON.
