Theory blown

Ah well, win some lose some, or in this case, lose one, win some.
My  recently created RICHARDSON page outlined my theory that  the James who married Margaret MABON, and was widowed in 1812, went on to marry Christian OUTERSON and emigrate to Quebec.
A descendant of James & Margaret has popped out of the woodwork and shared his DNA results (many thanks).
These have been converted, where possible, to match our existing FamilyTree DNA results and now appear on the RICHARDSON page at DNA Surnames.
They make it look unlikely that we are talking about the same James here.

The "win" in the equation however is that we now have three matching Border RICHARDSON trees!
Exactly where they connect however remains to be seen.

Three trees down, how many others to go?

Have you considered...

FamilyTree DNA have announced another good round of test discounts.
Details available on the DNASurnames project diary where the list of projects I have an interest in may also be found.
Direct male line descendants of my DAWE, WIGHT, & FAMILTON lines are particularly wanted.
Happy to explain how this is a painless, harmless process that will enhance our knowledge of the families concerned - contact details in footers of most pages.
We've had great successes with the RUNCIMAN and FAIRBAIRN projects.
Some links that may help explain dna testing for genealogy can be found on my Lorna Genie site.

BAINs

Bobby's preliminary dna results are in, so DNA Surnames now includes the first BAIN kit, yet another of my main lines represented.
Way too early days to say where that will lead, but no immediate matches to others in the project already.

See also the other DNA project diaries to keep track of what's changed there, mainly the FAIRBAIRN one as several pedigrees have been added over time, and more results are now in, adding to the jigsaw of the Borders FAIRBAIRNs.

DNA special

Anyone still thinking about joining in the fascination of dna projects but put off by the cost, now is an excellent time to jump in.
Family Tree DNA are offering a great discount on their Y-DNA37 test, throwing in an mtDNA test for less than the usual price of just the Y-DNA37 and significantly less than the usual price for this combined test.
37 markers is a good entry level for genealogical purposes, and can always be upgraded to 67 at a later stage if interesting matches ensue.
Find your surname of choice, and join the relevant project.
The ones I have an interest in are all on  DNA Surnames, but a search at either the World Families Network pages, or Family Tree DNA will give you more options.

Johnnie comes marching home

Well "Johnnie" actually left Scotland prior to the American Civil War, and in fact had been in NY State for nigh on 20 years before becoming embroiled in it even.
The Fairbairn Surname DNA Project Diary has the details on the latest findings that explain this comment more fully, but basically, I think we're well on the way to welcoming the John son of a Walter FAIRBAIRN of Roxburghshire, who was in Delaware Co, NY by at least 1841, probably earlier, into the family of Walter and Agnes (ROBERTSON/ROBISON) FAIRBAIRN.

Nearly three weeks since a post must be a record for me. Been busy doing lots of things, but the main one was testing for a new release of Second Site 3, the program I use to generate my web pages, particularly for the newly introduced component of it to cope with dna results and charts. The preliminary result of the changes can now be seen in  DNA Surnames Lineages section where most of the surnames recorded there now have a dna section on that site instead of referring you off to other sites.

Whatever else I've been up to will eventually surface in the web and online database updates that will follow in due course.

Alternate John F/Helen Anderson pedigree

Check the Fairbairn Surname DNA Project Diary for some updates.
Can anyone pinpoint the source of the "Genealogical Tree of Clan Fairbairn Compiled from the year 1563"? Picture of said cover attached to John's page on DNA Surnames to jog memories.

Mostly dna - SINTON match, HENDERSON lineage confirmed

Mostly a DNA day or two as a heap of results came pouring in.
SINTON and HENDERSON data in the DNA Surnames Lineages section have been updated to reflect the latest findings, namely that yes, there is indeed a relationship between the Jedburgh SINTON family of William and Isabella (SCOTT) SINTON and the Southdean SINTONs
As William's page shows, we'd love to find a distant cousin of the current representative of this line to help determine whether the differences in the dna signatures crept into the lineage before or after William.

The HENDERSON result is just a confirmation that we're working with the correct dna signature for Archibald - not that it helps us thru the brick wall, as there aren't any matches anywhere in the dna tested community as yet.

DNA Wanted! Sintons

Continuing the SINTON review. Remembered about the family of James & Isabella (FLEMING) SINTON with their Southdean connections (well was prompted to do so by Margaret).
I've added them to the dna Wanted! SINTONs list, and to LornaPotential (or at least will do so, next update).

Projects Portal RUNCIMANs updated

DNA Surnames has had several lineages, dna participants, links etc added to it, mainly for the missing RUNCIM(e)N data.
More to come.

If you have bookmarked some of the underlying pages, the links may have changed as I reviewe/revise the database that drives these pages. Other than around the Haplogroup area, they shouldn't change after this, but no guarantees!

DNA Projects Portal/DAWEs

Prototype version of my DNA Surnames now in place. Many more lineages to be added. Anyone researching the surnames is welcome to contact me to get their webpages included in the Web Links section. Or even have their dna project included.
Currently working on new info from a DAWE descendant (in Michigan) of Isaac DAWE and Thirza STEPHENS.
Will update the pages when I've caught my breath from the TMG Conference and fought the mail backlog, and then get back to the exciting new results from the FAIRBAIRN and SINTON DNA projects.

Dykehead TURNBULLs ++

Updated TURNBULL descendant chart in place to include a few more of the newfound branch of Dykehead TURNBULLs.
Haven't found out that much about the history of Dykehead, but Giles advised that, as I suspected, it was one of the many farms sold into private ownership from the Netherby Estate.
I found a mention in The Times of the sale of 21 of the 25 lots in July 1912, but none were mentioned by name.

The DNA Surnames has also had a complete update, so now should include all dna participants, and researchers, with lineages as appropriate, apart from the ROWE project, which is still very much at the early stages of being included. I now want to know about any missing links, incorrect info etc!
Should you want your DNA project mentioned on the Portal pages, just send me an email with the appropriate links.
Check out the respective lineage Wanted! pages, particularly if you are a male descendant of a line of SINTON, RUNCIMAN, FAIRBAIRN, DAWE families.

The above Wanted! lists are by no means complete, and will be added to over time.

Discounts available if you join and order a test via a surname project before 31 Dec.
