13th: FamilyTree pages updated

Over the last few days several contacts have spurred me into action on further updates to my own tree (as opposed to dna and one name study projects, the former mostly currently awaiting results from the latest sale).
Marion rang to see whether or not I'd made any progress on tracking down living descendants of Thomas Storror HULL and Ada Trimble DAVEY, one of our ROWE descendants.
Checking on where I'd got to (the last lead was a possible son for their daughter Ada Nora HULL and Leonard RAY - but that came to naught), I noticed that since then, the 1911 census is more readily available.
That resulted in a couple more children for Thomas and Ada, and a marriage for one of them, Donovan Sydney HULL, but no children immediately obvious in the English indexes, so yet another dead end.
That led me to checking a few more of Ada's siblings in 1911. None of them look like they've any living descendants, although we would love to be proven wrong.

Then Linda popped up with another researcher of one of our Margaret HENDERSON's descendants, Susan JONES nee HUTTON. Bit hard tracking JONES in Wales without help.
This led me to having another go at identifying and tracing more of (one of) the William Meikle WATTs.
Good to confirm from the 1911 census that I'd got two of this one's sons correct - and have now added a daughter Margaret into the mix, and identified which of the two brides on the same Prestwich marriage register page in 1903 was his - Eliza HALL, obligingly living at home with her father and her three children (as the expected widow, William Meikle WATT having died 1910). They now show up on the HENDERSON chart.

End result: updated family tree pages, and it must be about time I put some time into re-publishing my WorldConnect database, LornaHenderson.

But in the meantime I've been having fun linking up my tree on the NZGDB to several of the other Taranaki families represented there.

Site may be subject to some teething problems, eg the charts I refer to are under development, work fine on my laptop but have a few problems on my desktop. Robert is investigating.
The principal is similar to One Great Family, a combined tree, but for the latter, the combination is automatic, but on NZGDB reloads of updates of your own data automatically update your data, but you have to manually link to other's trees - eg several of the "marry-ins" in my Taranaki data appear in several trees, one of which is considered an authority, so I consciously did not upload the parents with my data, and have now started checking for duplications and linking the people concerned to the other tree.
NZGDB also allows you to grant update permission to fellow researchers or relations so that you are all working on the one set of data.

10th: What do you make of this?

What would you interpret the forenames of the above squiggle as?

He is enumerated in the 1852 Hull, Quebec census, a few entries below Jane FAIRBURN (aka FAIRBAIRN) with her assumed sons James (later married Mary SMITH, Jane's niece via her sister Agnes SMITH nee WILLIAMSON) and John (married Sarah DAUGHTERTY and moved to Stillwater, Washington).

We'd like to prove that he is Jane's son, hopefully with an extant death cert or obit. that conclusively states whether Jane was married to John or David FAIRBAIRN.

New information found (see re John's son John) has led to a re-evaluation of supposedly known information for this family.

With records indicating that there was both a John and a David in the area, and assorted records assigning their assumed families indiscriminately between the two, and often with the wife for both being Jane WILLIAMSON, it's been an interesting exercise.

The jury is most definitely still out, but tending to Jane being married to a John, who seems to have died in 1847, from a fall from a horse if newly received information is accurate.

Children Agnes, James and John rather look like they belong to John and Jane, with possibly Archibald (marr. Margaret GRAHAM) and William George (marr. Sarah FARRELL) belonging to David and wife unknown..

David marr. to Charity WALKER could belong to either, but I'm currently leaning towards him being John and Jane's!

Anyone with hard facts about these families? The family information is rather contradictory, one even throwing an Archie in as married to Jane WILLIAMSON.

Confirmed hunch re REY, willing ROWEs

Confirmation received that I was indeed on the right trail for at least one of the children of Thomas Storror HULL and Ada Trimble DAVEY. Ada Norah HULL married Leonard REY in Heavitree, Oct 1929, Leonard a buyer, son of a Peter REY retired civil servant, & Ada d/o Thomas HULL a woollen merchant.
Marion has written to the last address I have for a Colin who looks like he might be their son, given he was last known to be on the same street in Exeter.

Transcript received, from Ernest, of the 1858 will of James ROWE, h/o Elizabeth COLMAN, which has completely convinced Ernest and I that we have indeed connnected James up to the correct father, Matthias (as opposed to his being his cousin James bap, 1788, the son of John and Charity (BLAGDON) ROWE). He leaves the Kantham property he inherited from his father, to his son Henry Colman ROWE jointly with wife Elizabeth. It also provides an alternate surname for dtr Jane, who the Lydford marriages on GenUKi show as marrying a Samuel GORDON. She is referred to as Jane GOODYEAR in the will, and I now can spot the other half of her marriage on FreeBMD as Samuel GOODER.

LornaPotential updated, mainly to remove the Quebec families of William & David FAIRBAIRN, now included in the descendants chart for John & Bessie (FLINT) FAIRBAIRN, in readiness to publishing them in the rellies database LornaHenderson instead, but that will take some time as I check off what I do and don't have.

Mar 5, 2008: Correcting COLLINGS

Given the burst of activity on tracing the HULL/DAVEY family down to present day (and yes I did find the marriage of a Leonard REY and Ada Norah HULL - 1932 Exeter, so that is looking promising) I checked what else I might be missing on the related families.
I've had to bring Laura Ann COLLINGS back to last sighting 1891, rather than Pat's 1901 teaching in Suffolk, as that latter was a Laura A, with a sister Albertha E KING, widow, which is a different family of John & Elizabeth COLLINGS as far as I can currently tell, where Laura A is actually Laura Arabella Augusta, rather than Laura Ann, and Albertha E is Emma Sophia Albertha.
